Spectacles of Scripture

With eyes of flesh, we see but dim and drear,
The world’s vain shadow, fraught with sin and fear.
Yet lo, a lens divine dost Heaven provide,
Through which the truth, full bright, we may espy.
O Scripture blest, thy words our guide must be,
For in thy light, the world’s true form we see.

Through thee, we gaze beyond the veil of lies,
And see the hand of God that ever nigh.
The learned Calvin taught this sacred lore:
That through thy lens, our sight we must restore.
For man, alone, doth stumble in the night,
But with thy light, our path is straight and right.
Thou art the glass through which the world is known,
Thy wisdom shines and makes the truth our own.
So let us don these spectacles of grace,
To see God’s work in every time and place.
Through thee, we know the Maker and His ways,
And give to Him eternal thanks and praise.
For in thy lens, the world is clear and bright,
Revealed in truth by Scripture's holy light.
